Okay, so your lineup is set. Now, upon which head do you lay the Captain Crown? Pick 2 Champions for your Captain, and if they play either one, you get a 50% bonus to the fantasy points in those games. There are different strategies to use when picking a Captain, but the end goal is always to get those extra points. Getting the Captain bonuses separates the chumps from the champs, so be ready to read the meta and use that crystal ball!
- Best Overall Captain: A threat to lead all players in scoring with a predictable Champion pool
- Risky Captain: High upside value, but more risk due to Champion variety
- Safe Captain: Sacrificing some upside to make sure that you get the Champion picks correct
Best Overall captain: FNC Upset – Kaisa & Aphelios
The king is back!! Once the best fantasy option of the LEC, Upset had to put his success on pause on the part of Origen. His KP numbers have been lower than I’d like, but it is nice that Kaisa & Aphelios have accounted for 6 of his 7 games as a Fnatic member, only 1 of which he failed to score 20 points.
Risky Captain: Larssen – Lucian & Twisted Fate
His super high upside schedule combined with his top-tier talent make him a fantastic risk-reward Captain. He will need to bring his absolute A-game to beat MAD & G2, but both teams are known to give up lots of Kills in losing fashion. Larssen’s Champion pool has become more predictable lately, so take advantage while you can.
safe Captain: S04 Neon – Kaisa & Miss Fortune
Nothing sexy here. Neon has played 5 straight games of Kaisa and has one of the two easiest schedules on the slate. S04’s 4-game win streak should continue this week, and so should the Kaisa picks.
Deeper Dive – Captain Role Meta
Another week of Renekton and Gragas ruling the Top Lane. Camille is making a push into the meta though, which is excellent for Top Lane scoring but still doesn’t make a Captain a good idea.
Once very clear, the Jungle meta is now getting very murky. Taliyah, Udyr, and Olaf are still top-tier, but incoming nerfs will make drastic changes to this position. Try to put your crown elsewhere if your Jungler isn’t your lineup’s true carry; otherwise, stick to the Champs we have seen.
Twisted Fate is still an absolute lock. And just like every single meta ever, Azir, Syndra & Orianna find themselves as strong Mids. There is not much rhyme or reason between these Champs, which makes Mid Captain a risky choice.
Kaisa is still the Queen. Xayah & Aphelios are the clear 2 & 3, but we have seen Miss Fortune climb into the meta, taking the place of where we thought Senna or Samira could rise to in pro-play. This is still the go-to Captain position—just a matter of who you pick next to Kaisa.
Rell is on a horse! That’s cool! (weekly reminder not to Captain this position)
